Mascherano tells Toffees to forget about Deulofeu

Barcelona defensive general Javier Mascherano wants to stifle rumours that Roberto Martinez’s outfit will keep Gerard Deulofeu, who is currently on loan.

Deulofeu has been playing for Everton this season where he has lived up to his name with Toffees manager, Roberto Martinez pleased with the young man’s performances.

The 19 year-old’s terrific form this season has led to speculation that Roberto Martinez is already putting together a deal to extend the Catalan’s stay, with a new offer said to be in the pipeline.

However, Javier Mascherano, feels that Everton’s hopes of keeping hold of the young star are futile and believes that Deulofeu will have an important role to play at the Nou Camp.

The Mirror quoted Mascherano saying: “Gerard is a player with a lot of quality.”

“I think Barcelona are already thinking about bringing him back to the Nou Camp.

“I don’t know for certain if it will be for next season, but he is an important player for the future of Barcelona.

“Playing at Everton has been good for his development.”

If Gerard Deulofeu goes back to the Camp Nou, it will surely be a blow to Roberto Martinez who is building a great side at the moment which includes one of the best talents to come out of England at the moment in the shape of 20 year-old midfielder Ross Barkley.
