Neymar scores against Celtic
Brazilian wonderkid Neymar gave back the lost magic to FC Barcelona with a stellar display of football and netting three goals to sink the Scots by 6 goals to 1 at the Camp Nou.
Barca’s goals came from Piqué,Pedro and Tello with Neymar picking up a hat trick with Neil Lennon stating that his team’s performance was “unacceptable”.
Lennon said after the game:
“I wouldn’t say some players gave up but it certainly looked that way at times.”
“I’d never accuse a player of doing that but there were a lot of half-hearted performances out there.
As a manager that’s the most disappointing aspect of the whole game.”
Neil Lennon recognised that he was up against a brilliant Barcelona side but admitted that Celtic was very poor.
It was Gerard Piqué who got on the scoreboard first with Barca adding two more goals from Pedro and Neymar in the first half to go in at the break 3 nil up.
Then the ex Santos striker added another brace to finish off with a hat trick just before the hour mark. Young gun Cristian Tello then added a sixth for Barca in the 72nd minute with Georgios Samaras grabbing a consolation goal for the Scottish outfit just before the final whistle.
Thus FC Barcelona handed Celtic on a silver platter the harshest of Champions League lessons by producing a quality display to equal Celtic’s heaviest European loss. This was Celtic’s 25th away defeat in 27 Champions League matches.
