Real Madrid’s game yesterday against Espanyol at Cornellà proved a difficult task for the whites as Iker Casillas was sent off in the 2nd minute of play. Marcelo however, came to the rescue in the 23rd minute and Real Madrid hung for the rest of the game with 10 men. This win puts Real Madrid within five points of Pep Guardiola’s Barça who drew their game on Saturday against Manuel Preciados’ side Sporting de Gijón after a bleak game.
The only nice thing about the game was David Villa’s magnificent chip to secure a draw.
Even Villa’s beautiful chip however, could not eclipse Wayne Rooney’s overhead kick to secure a win against rivals Manchester City in the Premier League derby on Saturday. It has been hailed as Rooney’s best goal, even better than the one he scored as a teenager against Arsenal for Everton on his debut.
