Defender and Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has been upset in by certain questions that appeared in the media about the injury suffered by Xavi to his Achilles tendon, and said that “it doesn’t make sense”. Puyol, friend and colleague of Xavi assured that Xavi always wants to play” and denied any rejection of the Spanish team, with whom he has not played the last two qualifying matches for the Euro cup, against Lithuania and Scotland.
“I worry more about who doubt him. It makes no sense to doubt Xavi, as he always wants to play in the team. If Xavi has stopped playing it’s because he’s injured. I hope these past few days have gone well because Xavi is very important to us. The important thing is to recover well”, Puyol snapped.
In this regard, he acknowledged that he rarely follows the press but said that it had come to his knowledge what is being said about Xavi and that is something that “is not new”. “I want him to play but only if he’s fit. He knows how he’s feeling and then there are the doctors, and they will decide if he’s fit enough”, said the captain.
Carles Puyol, having recovered from some discomfort in his calf muscle, emphasized that little by little all of Barcelona’s injured players are recovering, as is the case of Xavi, or David Villa whose sore knee might be an obstacle in facing his former team, Valencia at the Camp Nou on Saturday. “It will be a very difficult game against a very good team. We know that some important players have left the Valencia side but others have come, it’s a very solid team and will be very difficult to beat” he added.
