Messi bags a hat trick in the local derby against Espanyol

Little Leo Messi took charge of the game on Sunday as FC Barcelona trounced Espanyol by 5 goals to 1 at the Nou Camp. Espanyol were put into the lead thanks to a goal by Sergio García in the 13th minute but Leo Messi found the back of the net with a fine goal on the stroke of half time to equalise for the Catalan giants. The ball came out to the Argentine on the edge of the penalty area and Messi curled the ball just inside the post and just out of reach of the keeper. That was the start of a nightmare for keeper Kiko Casilla as Barça then ran amok and besieged his goal.

The second half got under way and a goal from Messi and a header from Pique was enough to keep the visitors choked. Then it was up to Messi again for his third and a goal from Pedro who came on for Luis Suárez to put the game to bed and out of reach for a hapless Espanyol who struggled to get to grips with Barça.

Messi’s second was similar to the first. he received the ball just outside the box, nutmegged an Espanyol defender and launched the ball past a hapless Casilla. Piqué was up next and scored a simple header from a corner kick as the Espanyol defense failed to pickup the tall defender. Pedro was up next and received the ball on the right from a cross on the left. he took the ball perfectly to pounce on the goal and score past Casilla in a one on one.

Messi wasn’t fully done and scored his third goal of the evening with a nice one two inside the penalty area to finish off Espanyol in this derby match.

Meanwhile Real Madrid maintain their lead in the Spanish League with their win over Celta Vigo by 3 goals to nil. Real Madrid have 36 points to FC Barcelona’s 34.
