FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué is a big guy who’s not easily intimidated on the pitch. To top that he’s won a World Cup winners’ medal and countless other trophies and titles with his club but there’s one thing that will make him quake with fear apparently.
It’s the sight of ex Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane, whether he’s on the pitch or a pitch side pundit. The fiery Irishman sent shivers down the spine of a young Piqué whilst at Old Trafford it has been revealed.
The Barça defender was speaking about his time at the Red Devils and revealed that he was scared stiff of United’s Roy Keane – and who can blame him! The 27 year old said he didn’t have a problem with Sir Alex Ferguson but it was Keane who managed to scare him.
The World Cup winner was interviewed by FourFourTwo magazine and said that even hid from him when he saw Keane being a pundit.
Gerard Piqué said: “I wouldn’t say I was scared of [Ferguson]. Roy Keane? Well, maybe that’s different!
“I remember we were in the changing room at Old Trafford and my phone started vibrating. Keano could hear the vibrations and went crazy trying to find out who the phone belonged to. That’s who he was.”
“Before we [Barcelona] beat Celtic 1-0 last season, I noticed him by the side of the pitch as a pundit as we went out to warm up. I hid my face with my hand because he still scares me. I was 26 years old, and I was s******* myself!”
Only last week, we discussed the idea of Gerard Piqué returning to Manchester United as part of Louis van Gaal’s rebuilding process. Although Keano is not a pundit now, he’s moved on to pastures new as assistant to Paul Lambert at Aston Villa so who knows, maybe Piqué will get to meet his nightmare once more!
