Messi hits 400 goals in 6 nil defeat of Granada

While Brazilian teammate Neymar scored a hat trick in Saturday’s annihilation of Granada, it was little Leo Messi who stole the praise by notching up an impressive 400 goals for the Blaugranas.

Barça thus stormed to the top of the league table with Atlético now in second place after thrashing Sevilla by an also impressive 4 goals to nil.

Not to be outdone, Real Madrid’s CR7 scored against Villareal in Los Blancos win over Villareal to go fourth in the table. Barça have now gone seven games without defeat and put behind them the misery of the goalless draw in midweek against Malaga.

Barça manager Luis Enrique said this about his star player: “Messi is someone who has been touched by a magic wand and he is desperate to enjoy playing football.”

Messi scored twice against Granada and took his number of assists to eight so far this season. The Argentine’s two goals took him to 358 goals for the Catalans giants along with his 42 goals at international level in some 525 games for both club and country.

“I never imagined I could achieve anything like this in my career,” he posted on his official Facebook page.

“Thanks for all the congratulations on scoring 400 goals with FC Barcelona and the Argentinian National Team. I’ll continue working hard to reach more targets.”

With the new Barça boss keen on squad rotations, Messi is the only one that has started all seven games so far this campaign. The manager isn’t too keen on handing his star player a break and had this to say about him in a press conference after the game:

“I don’t think if we added together the goals we have scored on the playground it would reach 400.”

“I prefer to see him on the pitch until the last minute to press and participate in our collective play.

“The temptation is there, it could happen at any point in the season, but his habitat is on the field.

“He is very intelligent and knows how to manage his efforts and he is one of the players who presses the most. I am confident his physical ability is up to that of being the No 1.”

FC Barcelona will now travel to Paris to meet Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League clash on Tuesday with a lot of confidence despite it being the toughest game they will have faced so far this season. luis Enrique wants to come away with 3 points in the bag and will need his team fully focussed on the job in hand.
