Barcelona are reportedly closing in on Liverpool’s Daniel Agger for a fee in the region of £12m.
Barcelona have not been content with the signings of Rakitic, Matthieu, Bravo and Ter Stegen to strengthen the squad and have therefore been busy tempting Agger away from Anfield.
It appears there has been a hot and cold love story with Agger over the last 18 months but Barcelona have decided to step up their game for him.
The Spanish press have been busy today with reports of a done deal or that it could be finalised within a week but other sources suggest that talks are only in the preliminary stages.
However, with the arrival of Croatian central defender Dejan Lovren, Agger could well be on his way out of the Anfield door. Lovren is the third player from Southampton to join Brendan Rodgers’ outfit after the signings of Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.
Barça need a man to replace Carles Puyol, who hung up his boots this summer and Agger could be the one to fill the void left by the great man.The 6 ft 3 in Denmark international will certainly add some much needed height to the Barça squad and at the age of 29, he’ll provide some much need experience, too.
It looks like Barcelona’s love affair with Agger has finally come to fruition. We shall see.
