FC Barcelona have had their eye on German stopper Marc Andre ter Stegen for two years now.Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said that the Azulgrana’s goalkeeping department started to keep tabs on Ter Stegen in the 2010/11 season.
“He’s a fast, agile keeper that’s good at making decisions, he is strong in the air, good at one-on-ones and good at communicating with the defensive line. He can still improve and as well as all that, he’s even good with his feet”, explained the ex Barcelona stopper Zubizarreta.
The sporting director recalled the difficulties that he himself faced in goal for the Catalan giants: “Being the Barça keeper is tricky. It’s one of the biggest challenges in the world of football, and Ter Stegen has all the attributes to fill that role”, he explained.
He thanked the young keeper for “the loyalty he’s shown us because there have been many developments recently, such as the FIFA sanction, and he’s always been on our side”.
Jordi Mestre, vice president of FC Barcelona, is convinced that they are working on “an inspiring project that will give positive results”, although he didn’t want to give away any secrets as to the size of the club’s transfer purse.
“We aren’t going to divulge a specific figure, but we will invest what’s required to put together a competitive team and win the titles that Barça deserves”, said Mestre.
