Valdés will be back to face Atlético Madrid on 12th January

So Víctor Valdés‘ return to fitness in the New Year is great news for Barcelona. Valdés could be fully recovered for the first game of the year at the Camp Nou, on 5th January against Elche. He will however, be fit and ready for the Catalan giants’ next away game against Atlético Madrid at the Vicente Calderón stadium on Sunday 12th January 2014.

Valdés picked up his injury whilst on international duty with Spain and has been out of action for the best part of a month and a half. It’s good to see the keeper back with his injury a thing of the past.

Victor Valdés picked up a knock during Spain’s friendly against South Africa at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg on 19th November.Spain won by a goal to nil and the keeper had to be carried off the field.

The club have sorely missed their number one keeper and he will have been out of action for a minimum of eight games. this is the same period which coincides with the Barca’s defeats to Ajax and Athletic de Bilbao.

Number 2 keeper José Manuel Pinto took charge while Valdés has been out and has put in some good performances and cannot be blamed for those two minor set-backs.

Valdés return to action will come just five days after becoming a free agent as from 1st January 2014, the keeper will be able to freely negotiate his future and terms with any club he wishes.

The keeper will be sadly missed as he tries new things and experiences new cultures as he has said on numerous occasions. Meanwhile, Barcelona are still on the lookout for a quality keeper that is capable of picking up where Valdés would leave off.
