First title of season goes to Barca

The first title of the season went to Barca last night at the Nou Camp against Atletico Madrid in a thrilling match with lots of controversy.

The Spanish Supercup belongs to FC Barcelona and Neymar’s goal in the first leg is what gave the Catalans victory. The game ended in a 0-0 draw and the last 20 minutes saw both teams going head to head with everything to play for.

Atletico’s Felipe Luis got shown the red card with little over 12 minutes to go for shoving fellow Brazilian Dani Alves in an off-the-ball incident. The Catalans then got the bit between their teeth and could smell blood.

Then Pedro was adjudged to have been brought down in the box and the referee had no option but to point to the spot. Messi stepped up and crashed the ball into Courtois’ crossbar who got nowhere near it anyway.

Pedro seemed to go down to easy as Miranda crashed into the back of him. With the fright out of the way for Atletico, Barca got back into their groove and stepped on the gas once more.

Barca piled on the pressure in the second half and the last half hour was all Barca’s with Atletico relegated to the odd counter attack although Simeone’s men defended like troopers.

Neymar and Messi both started the match and it was the little Argentine who made life difficult for the “Colchoneros” and was marked very closely, too close for comfort at times.

That was it, the game ended in a 0-0 draw and Xavi Hernandez was right the other day when he said that Neymar’s strike could prove valuable. He was so right as it gave the Catalan giants their first title this season under Tata Martino.
