Reports coming from the Daily Mail say that Catalan giants FC Barcelona have signed up youngster Denis Suarez for the fee of 1.5M euros.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who is a product of City’s youth program, will now join up with the Barcelona B team where he will be allowed to hone and sharpen his skills.
The young Galician began his footballing career at Spanish club Celta Vigo and was quickly snapped up in 2011 by Manchester City for a fee reportedly to be around £850,000, which, depending on performances and appearances, could have risen to around £2.75 million.
It was then that the Catalan club along with Manchester United and Chelsea were all gunning for the promising young star.
Despite the 19 year old Suarez having an active role in City’s 2011/12-pre season campaign, he wasn’t able to make the first team by a long shot.
He was on the subs bench numerous times, finally making his debut for the first team as a 67th minute substitute coming on for Samir Nasri in his club’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Capital One Cup.
Attacking midfielder Suarez has represented Spain at various youth levels and just last year in 2012, was voted as Manchester City’s Young Player of the Year by the fans, even though many had not seen him play for the club.
Meanwhile, the Etihad outfit still remain keen on finding a new defender before the end of the summer transfer window with Martin Skrtel of Liverpool, Martín Demichelis of Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid’s Pepe among those shortlisted.
City’s Gareth Barry is mulling over the idea of going out on loan with the Toffees as one of the options posed.
