Barcelona faces a week to find solutions for players not wanted by Tito

Barcelona’s transfer market has been stopped in its tracks since the arrival of Neymar. The technical management of the club has made it a priority from today to start placing the players who won’t be counted on for next season on the market to raise some much needed cash.

The main priority is to find a way out for the players returning from loan assignments. Barca is not counting on Fontàs, Afellay or Bojan and Isaac Cuenca is a special case. The central defender played with Mallorca on loan this season but has not had the expected continuity and now wants an assignment that guarantees him playing time. PSV Eindhoven looks like being a good option for Cuenca.

Ibrahim Afellay, who is out of contract in 2015, has a good market in the Premiership. The 27 year-old Dutch international, has played on loan at Schalke 04 this season and could now do the same at Tottenham, a team that would be willing to pay up to 9 million euros according to sources in England. In Italy, Lazio and Inter are also chasing him. The handicap of Afellay is his injuries, which have not been allowed him the necessary continuity over the last 2 seasons.

Fresh back from Italy, Bojan Krkic has dreams of returning to Barcelona and get a place in Tito’s squad. However, the Catalan club is not counting on Bojan and is looking for his next destination. AC Milan, where he has played this season, hasn’t closed the door on him but Barca would want to get more than the paltry 5million Euros offered by the Italian club. German outfit Hamburg has also made known their interest while Atletico Madrid, Malaga and Valencia, teams that once contacted Bojan, could return to the fray.

Isaac Cuenca is a special case. The 22 year-old will be sidelined for four months because of his knee injury and although Ajax seemed keen on him for another loan spell, the operation has ground to a halt. Indications are pointing to Cuenca recovering in Barcelona to be moved on in the winter to keep him progressing.

Although Barca is counting on them, one cannot rule out the possible exits of Victor Valdes, David Villa and Thiago Alcántara. After the Barca president’s and Victor’s statements, the goalkeeper situation seems to be resolved although the summer is very long and the situation could change. Barca would not accept less than 10 million Euros for Valdés.

David Villa is a player on the market. The Premier League has tempted him with various offers. Arsenal FC, Tottenham and even Liverpool have asked for him. With the arrival of Neymar at Barca holding down a place in the first team looks tough and would probably look at options to move if he doesn’t want to miss out on next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

The player who seems most likely to leave the club has to be Thiago Alcantara. Manchester United and Bayern are willing to pay the buyout clause of 18 million Euros and are waiting to know what the player says.

Finally, Jonathan dos Santos is another youth who is surplus to Barca’s needs. This season he has had almost no playing time and will also seek a way out. Anderlecht has already knocked on his door.
