Mats Hummels to continue for another year at Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund’s central defender, Mats Hummels has confirmed in the next issue of German magazine ‘Kicker‘, which will be published on Tuesday, May 21st, that he will continue on for another season with the German outfit.

“There was no contact made. Neither with Barcelona or any other club,” said the 24-year old German. “And when I say that I’m not part of these speculations now, people should listen to me,” said Hummels. Mats Hummels had to leave the pitch on Saturday against Hoffenheim with ankle problems.

However, it appears that Hummels will not miss Saturday’s final of the UEFA Champions League against Bayern Munich at Wembley in London.

“It is totally realistic to think that the player can play on Saturday in London against Bayern Munich,” said the head of the club’s medical team, Markus Braun.

We are pretty sure that Mats Hummels wouldn’t miss the final of the Champions League for anything in the world and it is quite surprising to hear the player’s declarations about staying at Borussia for another year.

If what Hummels says is true, then Barca will have to start courting another defender of the same calibre as the German. It won’t be an easy task and we would think that FC Barcelona has their eye on a few more players that would fill the void.
