At just 24, years of age Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has made his position very clear: “Either I go to Barca or I stay at Borussia Dortmund.” This is what he has told his father Hermann, who is his manager along with his good friend and coach, Jürgen Klopp.
The Hummels family has a special relationship with Klopp, who coached the defender’s father Hermann in Mainz. The Borussia coach has always spoken well of Mats for his formidable quality and personality.
However, what the Hummels family has not taken well to is the fact that Barca, with whom everything has been thrashed out regarding his signature, has not finalised the negotiations yet.
Mats Hummels desire would be to sign for Barca straight after the final of the Champions League at Wembley on May 25th.
The Borussia Dortmund star fails to understand what he has read in the German press about Tito Vilanova not seeing him in the team, as his game is very much like that of Gerard Pique.
In Borussia Dortmund he forms a solid duo with the Serbian international Neven Subotic. The two take turns providing controlled passes to move the ball up field, close off the defense and marking the player on the opposing team who happens to be farthest up the pitch.
Mats Hummels is also taking into consideration, as confessed to Jürgen Klopp by Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, that if Borussia Dortmund won their first Champions League final against Bayern on 25th May and Barcelona does not seal the transfer deal quickly, he would be happy to continue at the Signal Iduna Park.
In the case of Lewandowski the issue is further complicated by the agreement he has with Bayern Munich and the pressure from several clubs, not just Real Madrid.
