Leo Messi is the best says Iniesta

messi picks up 2 more awards

FC Barcelona team mate Andrés Iniesta has said that Leo Messi is the best player in the world and will be for a while.

That’s the verdict of Iniesta as pal Messi picked up a few more trophies to add to his ever growing list of gold and silverware. He was named La Liga’s Players’ Footballer of the Year and Best Striker for last season.

These two awards have topped off an unbelievable year for 25 year old Messi who has just become a new father. He is also highly tipped to lift the coveted Fifa Ballon D’Or in January 2013. If he does, it will be a remarkable feat as he will have won his fourth successive Ballon D’Or award.

Speaking of team mate Leo Messi, midfielder Iniesta remarked:

“Leo Messi is the No 1 in the world. Messi is the best not only for his goals but for his game in general.
“He has a huge importance in the team, he is unique and decisive and that is why he breaks all those records.
“What makes the people of Barcelona even happier is that he has so much time left ahead of him in the game.
“Those who vote for the Ballon d’Or will vote for the goals and what he has done throughout the year.”

Andrés is also in the running for the trophy as is Xavi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. Andrés was voted the Best Attacking Midfielder in Spain at last night’s award ceremony so he could still ruin the show for team mate Messi.

Messi’s off the radar statistics from last season has literally left Cristiano Ronaldo in the shade. Also, the awards came just three days after he broke Brazilian superstar Pele’s record of 76 goals for club and country in one calendar year — with more than six weeks still remaining. That is an awesome feat in itself and has sparked numerous polls on the social networking sites asking the question “Who’s better, Messi or Pele?”

After the awards ceremony, Messi had this to say:

“I’d like to thank the managers who voted for me as the best striker and my professional colleagues who did the same for the award of the best player in La Liga.
“My pride is so great to be able to receive those awards. It happened last year also, and it is a huge honour and and great joy.”

Whoever wins the Ballon D’Or, it certainly looks like being a Barca player, doesn’t it? We wish all the best for both Messi and Iniesta and may they continue to improve their craft.
