FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu blames ex president Sandro Rosell for the scandal involving Brazilian forward Neymar.
Bartomeu has told the judge dealing with the case that he was not the one involved in signing contracts for Neymar but rather, it was Sandro Rosell, who resigned as Barça’s president in mid scandal.
What is more, Bartomeu also denies any wrongdoing regarding tax evasion because any offence would be attributable to a different year. The president declared before Judge Pablo Ruz about the €2.8 million the club failed to declare in 2014 regarding the Neymar deal who the Catalan giants paid €94.8 million for rather than the sum of €57.1 million that was stated in the first place.
Sources at the hearing said that Bartomeu told Judge Ruz that he was not involved in the negotiations or the drafting of any of the seven contracts which formed part of the deal to sign the Brazilian from Santos.
Bartomeu then said that when he took over from Rosell, he signed the relevant papers because he approved them and gave instructions to the club’s tax consultants to work with zero risk and pay anything that might be owed to the Spanish Inland Revenue. He noted that the club then made a payment of €13.5 million euros to rectify the situation. Bartomeu assured that this sum, more than covered any possible debts that the club may have incurred.
