Barça come out top in 5 goal thriller against Villareal

barcelona vs villareal 2015

It was a very cold night but the loyal crowd at the Nou Camp were rewarded with a fine display by the Catalans that came from behind TWICE to earn their side victory in a five goal thriller.

Villareal were up for this match and looked to extend their amazing unbeaten 18 match run. In the end it was Barça who extended their unbeaten run to 8 matches with a superb display in one of the Nou Camp’s lowest turnouts as the winter chill hovered over the stadium in Barcelona.

Manager Luis Enrique said after the game: “It was a very positive match except for the goals we conceded.” “The 0-1 disorientated us and we wasted 10 minutes getting back into the game, but the result indicates that we’re prepared to overcome any situation.”

Before the game, Villareal manager Marcelino said: “We have to make them feel uncomfortable. We need to be ready to run a lot, but we can’t only defend”. Those words must have sounded in his opposite number’s head as the yellow submarine took the lead at the Nou Camp. It was short lived though as Neymar tapped the ball home from a rebound just before half time.

Luciano Vietto then scored for the visitors on 51 minutes to give the lead back to Villareal. It didn’t last long as Rafinha put the ball past the Villareal stopper just a minute later.

That gave the Catalans a chance to puff out their chests and Barça were now cooking on gas!Two minutes later and Suárez fed Messi a through-ball for the Argentine to latch onto, striking with his weaker foot and knocking in his 32nd goal this season.

Meanwhile, ex Barça legend and football pundit Gary Lineker believes Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is so good that he makes team-mate and former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez look pretty average.Check out his Tweet below.
