Luis Suarez needs a big night against Atlético Madrid

The Premier League saw some fantastic matches at the weekend with some of the biggest names being dumped out of the FA Cup. Cup games are like this and that’s why they are magical. there is always the fear of the giant being killed off by the minnow.

La Copa del Rey is no different but Barcelona are not facing a second division side who are out to collect their scalps. Barça face Atlético Madrid tonight in the second leg of their clash with the “colchoneros” 1 nil up on aggregate. Barcelona will have to try its very best to overcome Diego Simeone’s side if they are to follow the road to an impressive 27 Copa del Rey titles.

One man who has to “man up” as it were is Luis Suárez. I don’t want to be the one who says he’s turning into Fernando Torres when Liverpool sold him to Chelsea but he has to pull the boots on tonight and show the fans he’s been worth the agony of bringing him to Barça. I loved Torres when he was first at Atlético and said then that I would dearly love to see this striker in the Premier League. I got my wish and he signed for Liverpool and had an amazing first season. You know the rest of the story….

While Messi and Neymar are on fire, Suárez is the missing link in the three-pronged attack and his goal drought just adds to his misery. He’s playing ok and in his most favoured role as a centre forward but has more goal assists than goals to his name so far.

Suárez has managed no less than seven assists from 11 league appearances, but has only scored twice, netting just five goals in 16 games in all competitions. But when you consider that his 31 goals from 33 Premier League matches last season saw him win the European Golden Shoe jointly with Cristiano Ronaldo, his actual figures are unheard of and downright worrying to boot!

Suárez needs to step up a gear and start knocking them in again. For a man that was used to finding the net 30 times a year for Ajax and then Liverpool, Barça should expect more from him. Let’s hope he starts pulling it altogether soon for the club that went out on a limb to sign him.

About Aaron

My name's Aaron and I'm a great Barça fan. I like to tell it like it is and if there is something I don't like about the club or something that needs addressing, you'll know!
