Cristiano Ronaldo picked up his third Ballon d’Or award last night in Zurich and let out a characteristic ‘whoop’ at his delight in doing so. Social media sites lit up after CR7’s cry of delight and the internet was set ablaze with memes.
The Real Madrid winger has three Ballon d’Or trophies, one less than Leo Messi and thoroughly deserved after an incredible year. The question is though; has Cristiano Ronaldo got it in him to walk away with a fourth trophy and match Leo Messi’s unbelievable feat?
When you think about it, it’s an incredible accomplishment to even have a single Ballon d’Or on your trophy shelf, let alone four of them! Last season was incredible for Ronaldo but Messi also had very similar stats to that of Real Madrid’s golden boy. There wasn’t much in it and Argentina were runners up to Germany in the World Cup in Brazil.
Ronaldo is said to be concentrating on his fourth Ballon d’Or and he’s good enough to get it and Messi will have to step up to fifth gear this season if he wants an unprecedented fifth award in his trophy cabinet.
On a side note, Sepp Blatter, a man who shouldn’t really be in charge of FIFA, has urged Barcelona to accept their punishment and get on with it.
Blatter was speaking to television station RTVE: “I want to talk to the representative of Barcelona to find a possible solution,” he said.
He went on: “A great club like Barcelona should be an example to the world.
“What is important in football is to accept decisions about because in football you learn to win, but also learn to lose.”
