It’s not the news we wanted to hear but German star Marco Reus has chosen Real Madrid over Barcelona. Reus has decided that he will leave his club in the summer and Barça had asked him to wait a year because of the ban imposed by FIFA. However, the delicate situation of Borussia Dortmund means that the 25 year-old attacking midfielder will leave the club in the summer.
Marco Reus was very close to signing for Barcelona in 2013 but with Mario Götze’s departure to Bayern, president Reinhard Rauball decided to hang on to the player.
Real Madrid are already moving the strings and have met with the player’s agent in Germany. With Barcelona sanctioned, the transfer will seem like a piece of cake to Madrid unless another big club like Manchester United, whom Reus was also linked to, comes in to spoil the move for the “Merengues”.
The figure that is being touted so as Reus can leave Dortmund is around €25M Euros though sources say that Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich are looking to seek an agreement for somewhat less than that.
In the end it looks like it’s a decision that Marco Reus will be taking rather than any club’s making it for him. Bayern are still rueing the day they let Toni Kroos leave the club for Real Madrid and are looking to get back at the Merengues by trying to snipe the Marco Reus deal. But let’s face it, that won’t happen as the 25 year old looks set to join the Madrid outfit in the summer.
