Martín Montoya looks set to leave the Nou Camp this winter

Martín Montoya’s days at Barcelona could be numbered according to his agent. While manager Luis Enrique believes he’s a great player, Enrique is the one who calls the shots.

Just a few days ago in a press conference, the manager said regarding Montoya’s situation at the Nou Camp: “I have no doubt that he’s good enough to play at the highest level, even at Barça, but I make the decisions here.”

Now 23 year old Montoya’s agent is said to be looking for a way out for him. With Douglas playing like a Sunday team defender, Barça may have a big problem on their hands if Montoya leaves the club.

Radio Marca spoke with the player’s agent Juan De Dios Carrasco and mentioned that the 23 year old has spoken to manager Luis Enrique about his future at the club and the boss told him to his face that he has no chance of starting while Alves and Douglas are in front of him. That’s a hammer blow to the young player as he has had some great games for Barcelona under previous managers.

Carrasco said: “Right now we’re only interested in finding the best possible club for Martín, so that he can improve as a player. There are clubs in Germany, England and Italy already pulling strings to sign him”.

Apparently Barça have offered the agent a one and a half year loan spell away from the Nou Camp but Carrasco stated that Montoya’s intention was to move on. He would only accept a buy-back option as a last resort.

Meanwhile the Daily Mirror reports that Kop boss Brendan Rodgers has been following the right-back for over a year and could now make a window move to secure his signing, while Montoya’s agent, Juan de Dios Carrasco, hinted that something may already be in the works.

It would be a shame to lose such a valuable player and he would be an asset to any club aspiring to sign him. Look at how happy Bojan Krki? is at Stoke City – he looks to have found a place where he is appreciated at last. Martín Montoya certainly be a great addition to Liverpool.
