It appears that FC Barcelona’s astro Leo Messi may have dropped a hint about leaving thee Nou Camp in the summer. The Argentine suggested in an interview that some people at the club would be willing to let him go.
Messi agreed new terms with the Catalan giants in May for a fee rumoured in the €20 million a year bracket, thus quashing any rumours of his leaving the club where he has made his name.
The 27 year old was speaking to Argentine magazine Ole and many have interpreted Messi’s words to mean that he’s thinking of leaving the club at the end of the campaign.
“At the moment, I am living in the present,” he told Ole. “I am thinking about having a great year and winning the trophies we want at Barcelona – nothing else.
“Later, we will see. In football, things change all the time. Although I have always said I would like to stay there forever, sometimes everything does not always go as you want.”
When Messi signed his new deal last May, it became unclear that the Argentine had not fully healed over remarks made about his fitness and integrity.Hours before signing the contract Messi released a statement saying that he “could leave if the people at Barcelona were not happy with him”.
When the player was asked to clarify his statements on whether he was being pushed out of the club Messi alluded to problems and uncertainty regarding the Barça boardroom being a factor:
“I have said it many times,” he said. “If it were for me, I would stay forever. But as I said before, everything does not always come out as you want – even more in football, which changes so much and in which so many things can happen.
“It is complicated, even more given what is happening today at Barcelona.”
