Pep Guardiola won 14 trophies with FC Barcelona

Are Real Madrid comparable to Pep Guardiola’s Barça that amassed so many trophies whilst playing delicious football?

That’s a strong statement to make but does the current Real Madrid team under Carlo Ancelotti even hold a candle to Guardiola’s own particular dream team?

Granted, Real Madrid are playing out of their boots and they are even league leaders at the moment after beating Barcelona and then Luis Enrique’s team losing at the weekend to his old club Celta Vigo. But is the current Real Madrid comparable to Guardiola’s team?

Andoni Zubizarreta doesn’t think so.Let’s not forget that under Guardiola, Barça won an amazing 14 trophies including three league titles and two Champions League crowns, to boot.

There’s no doubt that Real Madrid are in fine form and they are red hot at the moment in La Liga and the Champions League. CR7 cannot stop finding the net and the team are in a good place.

Under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid won a historic tenth European Cup, something of a feat on its own when we remember that the Italian only arrived just over a year ago.

However, Barça’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta believes that Real are not comparable to Barcelona under Guardiola.Speaking to AS Zubizarreta said:

“No, not really, (Real Madrid aren’t comparable to Guardiola’s Barcelona).”

“But I think they are a powerful team with their features and the way they play. But we have an obsession about comparing things. Life is richer when we’re building things for the future.”

Pep Guardiola took over at Bayern Munich in 2013 after taking a year off. He has managed to notch up four trophies at the Bundesliga club so far.
