Brazilian Alves is a target for both Man Utd and Liverpool

Dani Alves Barcelona

Brazilian defender Dani Alves is apparently in the sights of both Manchester United and Liverpool after the player has failed to agree new terms with the Catalan giants.

Alves will be entering the final six months of his current contract in January and the two Premiership sides will try to coax him away in the winter transfer window.

Things aren’t looking too sweet at the Nou Camp for Alves at the moment with the arrival of Douglas Perreira who will be challenging for his position along with Martin Montoya.

The Brazilian joined the blaugrana setup in 2008 when he joined from Andalusian side Sevilla  and was said to be the the world’s most expensive defender at the time. The Old Trafford outfit have since beat that record with the signing of Luke Shaw from Southampton for around £30M including add ons.

If United can land the Brazilian in the winter market, they could get him at a cut price deal as Barcelona will not want to lose him on a free when his contract runs out in July 2015. The Catalan club would rather let him go for a bargain priced deal than risk losing him in the summer for nothing.

However, Dani Alves has so far started both games for Barcelona under new manager Luis Enrique and it all hinges on whether Douglas and/or Montoya can cut it a the very top. Would Luis Enrique have to offer Alves a new improved deal to keep him at the Nou Camp? We shall see.
