Ex Everton loan player Gerard Deulofeu is confident of winning a first team place. Deulofeu was speaking for the first time since his Premier League adventure and is relishing playing alongside the likes of Messi, Neymar and Luis Suárez.
He gave his first press conference on Thursday after getting back to Barcelona and mentioned that “coming home was always my objective. I learned a lot of things at Everton and now I’m going to have to work hard to achieve this season’s targets.”
And Gerard Deulofeu is confident that he can win a place in the first team and said that if he didn’t think it was possible then he wouldn’t be here. It is an enormous task for the young man and with the likes of Messi, Neymar and Suárez to compete with in attack, the 20 year-old pointed out: “I know that Barça has the best footballers but I am confident in myself and have high hopes of winning myself a place.”
It is highly doubtful that either Neymar or Suárez will feature in Barcelona’s first games but Deulofeu is not complacent about that fact. He stressed that if he doesn’t play well, others will be playing in his place. That’s a good attitude to have and he’s not taking for granted the fact that just because Neymar and Suárez are not on the pitch, he will be handed a place on a silver platter.
Gerard Deulofeu returns to Barça after a year with Everton and he says he has improved a lot regarding defending and fitness.Talking about new coach Luis Enrique, Deulofeu said: “He’s a brave coach, he’s got character and knows what he wants.” “And he won’t be giving away first team places for free. We’ll all have to work for them”, said Deulofeu.
We certainly hope to see more of the player this year and hope that the new coach has a place for him in his team.
