Barcelona target Suárez takes chunk out of Chiellini

luis suarez bites chiellini

Barcelona target Luis Suárez had the world at his feet. He single handedly knocked England out of the World Cup with two of the best goals of the competition but last night he was back to his old tactics. After rounding on the English media after his biting incident and racist slurs in the Premier League over the last two seasons, threatening to leave Liverpool and feeling that he was given a hard time, Suárez opened up again his particularly nasty can of worms by biting Italian Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay’s 1-0 that sent them through to the last 16.

It looks like FIFA will now open disciplinary proceedings against the striker with his club Liverpool thinking about their next move.Uruguay looks set to fight any move from FIFA to ban the player for the rest of the tournament.

It beggars belief that a player who was caught up in a racist slur and a biting incident with Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has thrown it all away again. Suárez was waiting for the ball to come in the box and in an off the ball incident was caught up with Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini in front of goal which saw both players go to ground. Chiellini got up pulling his shirt off his shoulder showing a bite mark to the world while Luis Suárez play-acted holding his teeth as if he had been the innocent party.

The Uruguayan was handed a 10-game ban for his bite on Ivanovic in 2013 and the year before, he was fined £40,000 and received an eight-match ban for using racially abusive language towards Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.

The question everyone is asking now is whether the Spanish League would take on such a liability as Suárez, who clearly has some issues to sort out. Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo is running with an article that suggests that the Catalan giants have to carefully consider any move for the Uruguayan while Sport goes with a title that suggests Liverpool are now studying the possibility of cutting their losses with Suárez after the new biting incident.

The media are also suggesting that Liverpool will not defend the player after coming out to defend him for the last two unsavoury incidents. Twitter has had a field day too:

This is definitely not going away for Luis Suárez and many fans and players are calling for a ban for the rest of the tournament. Can Barcelona or Real Madrid afford to have this liability within their ranks?
