Koke sees himself at Atlético Madrid next season

After a great season at the Vicente Calderón and a La Liga title under his belt, things couldn’t get better for Atlético Madrid’s 22 year old midfield general, Koke. This week has seen offers and rumours from both Manchester United and FC Barcelona. Yesterday the young and talented player was interviewed by Spanish sports paper Marca and he made it quite clear that he wants to stay at the Vicente Calderón.

Here is the interview with Marca.
Marca: Your name was on everybody’s lips this morning. How many messages did you have on your phone when you got up?
Koke: Loads. At first I thought something strange had happened. In all honesty, I’m not reading too much into it.
Marca: What did you think when you saw Barcelona’s interest in signing you?
Koke: I haven’t yet had time to read what was written. I’m on holiday and I’m trying to disconnect.
Marca: But it must be huge to hear that a club like Barcelona are willing to pay €60m for you.
Koke: It’s incredible. Barça are one of the best teams in the world and you must be doing something right if they’re interested in you. That’s great for any player to hear.
Marca: So, what’s going to happen? Can Atlético fans rest easy?
Koke: Yes, everyone here knows what I’m like and how I feel about Atlético. I want to stay here and everybody knows that.
Marca: So you see yourself playing for Atletico Madrid next season?
Koke: Yes, I see myself at Atlético. Before that, I hope to make the World Cup squad. That’s my top priority right now.

Koke no doubt wanted to put the fans minds at rest before he takes off with the Spain squad for the World Cup in Brazil. Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque has included him in his 23 man squad to take on the world next month. As we mentioned in yesterday’s post, Koke would probably do better to wait a year before moving on, if that is what he wants. He is surely one of Spain’s most promising talents at the moment and although he is not short of admirers, he needs to concentrate on crafting his career at Atlético Madrid first.
