Yaya Touré looks set to leave Premier League title winners Manchester City but former club FC Barcelona do not seem interested in bringing the Ivory Coast international back to the Camp Nou.
Rumours have it that Touré may be forced to consider a move to France as the Catalan giants drop their interest for re-signing him.
It is said that Touré wants to leave City over an issue of disrespect that has the football world amused to say the least.
Yaya Touré’s agent Dimitry Seluk said: “Yaya is so upset, he is thinking of leaving City,” he said. “There are a number of things that have happened that have left Yaya feeling bitterly upset. City have treated him with disrespect and have really hurt him.
“What happened at his birthday meant the club don’t care about him. It was proof. They can say whatever they want, ‘Oh we like him, but we forgot.’ None of them shook his hand on his birthday. It’s really sick.
“The club’s owners ate a 100kg cake after winning the Premier League this season, but when they and the players were all together, none of them shook his hand on his birthday. It shows they don’t care about him. They don’t know that money can’t buy relationships – no Sheikh can buy a relationship.”
Then Yaya Touré himself took to social networking site Twitter to deny the rumour. “Thanks for all the birthday messages today. Card from City just arrived… Must have got lost in the post. Haha. Jokes aside. Please do not take words that do not come out of my mouth seriously. Judge my commitment to @MCFC by my performances.”
But amazingly, an hour after Touré’s tweet, the midfielder changed tack. “Everything Dimitry said is true,” he tweeted. “He speaks for me. I will give an interview after world cup to explain.”
Now, The Telegraph reports that the midfielder is almost certainly to leave the Etihad stadium and look for a new club. But Barcelona is very unlikely to be his destination as Yaya’s agent said last week that the club are not ready to re-sign a player who is 31 years old.
