La Liga top 3 don’t defraud at the weekend

The three top teams didn’t disappoint their fans with wins this weekend

The Spanish League’s top guns didn’t defraud this weekend as Atlético, Barça and Real Madrid all cruise to victories. The league leader didn’t disappoint its fans an neither did its chasers for the top spot.

Atlético beat Villareal with a solitary goal from Raúl García to stay at the top while Barcelona beat Real Betis 3-1 – two of Barcelona’s goals coming from penalties and a third, an own goal from
Jordi in his own net. Real Madrid looked to be in trouble at first against Real Sociedad but their persistence paid off and the game ended with a convincing 0-4 scoreline in favour of the “Merengues”.

Goals came from Illarramendi just before half time with Gareth Bale, Pepe and Morata finishing off Real Sociedad in the second half. Two of Real’s efforts hit the post and it would have been a bloodbath if those had managed to go in.

The Catalan giants’ were made to suffer for their victory against bottom feeders Real Betis. It looked like Martino’s men were playing at 50% of their capacity and the Nou Camp started to whistle. Sometimes the whistles were directed at Mascherano and other times at the team. Barcelona have now had 5 penalties awarded in four games.

After the match coach Gerardo Martino said that the game against Atlético Madrid had taken its toll on his players as an excuse for the below average performance. One player that did manage to light up the Nou Camp was Chilean Alexis Sánchez. He put in a great performance and was responsible for the first Barça goal. He showed off some great skill before being hacked down in the box and get a penalty awarded that Messi calmly stroked home.

There’s no change at the top and everything stays the same. It could all change again in the blink of an eyelid as we saw last week – especially as the three teams plan ahead of their second leg Champions League clashes.
