Victor Valdés’ replacement has finally materialised in the shape of Marc-Andre ter Stegen and he will arrive in the summer transfer window although the Catalan giants have no plans to announce the signing until the Spanish League has been decided and Valdés reveals where he is off to.
Goal confirms that the Azulgranas will pay around 9-12M euros or £7.5-9.9M for the services of the Borussia Monchengladbach stopper, plus two friendly games.
Barcelona have been on the lookout for a new man between the sticks since Victor Valdés’ announcement back in January 2013, when he revealed that he would be leaving the Camp Nou.
After sounding out a few keepers including Atlético Madrid stopper Thibaut Courtois, who would have been their first choice, Barcelona has found Valdés’ replacement in the shape of Ter Stegen. The 21-year-old German will sign a contract until the summer of 2019 with FC Barcelona.
Barcelona will announce the signing of the keeper once the Spanish league has been decided or when current number one Valdés, reveals his next destination.
Ex keeper and current sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, has travelled to see Ter Stegen in action for Borussia Monchengladbach on various occasions to monitor him and it appears that the young keeper has done enough to warrant the Catalan club digging into their pockets and signing him.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen recently announced that he would not be signing a contract extension, prompting his club to cash in on the young keeper after the current campaign has finished.
