Andalusian newspaper Viva Sevilla reports that a close eye is being kept on the Sevilla captain, Ivan Rakitic by FC Barcelona.

Barça are keen to sign Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla

It appears that the 25 year old Croatian star is one of the names on Barça’s shopping list as the Catalans due their due diligence on a long term replacement for 34 year old midfield maestro Xavi Hernández.

Scouts from the Catalan giants have seen Ivan Rakitic in action a few times this season and are convinced he would fit well into the club’s ethos and style.

25 year-old Rakitic is currently in the process of negotiating terms on a new deal with Andalusian side Sevilla as his current contract is due to expire in June 2015. However, it doesn’t seem to be an open and closed case as Rakitic’s wage demands are proving to be obstacle for the club.

Ivan Rakitic would also like his €40m release clause lowered to around €25m, which would effectively ensure other big clubs prick up their ears and have a look at the Croatia international.

Although FC Barcelona are still favourites to retain their La Liga crown and win the Spanish League, last week’s slip up against Valencia is proving difficult to stomach as coach Gerardo Martino tries to play down any suggestions that the Azulgrana club are in crisis.
