Everyone was a winner this weekend in La Liga. Atlético reached the halfway stage of the competition with the same points as Barca, the Catalan club can be pronounced winter champions and Real Madrid closed the gap on the two leaders to just 3 points with their win over Espanyol at Cornellà in Barcelona.
That means the top 3 sides are happy with this weekend’s turnout.
Barca had dominated most of the game at the Vicente Calderón stadium and had most of the ball. However, Barca produced very few shots at goal that could have been counted on one hand.
The Catalans were cancelled out by Atlético Madrid
Not even the presence of the great Messi nor Brazilian wonderkid Neymar could drive Barca towards the Atlético goal. Messi did manage to fire off two shots – apparently the only two shots by Barca in the second half.
Atlético Madrid took to the task of harassing the visitors, which at times, proved frustrating for the Catalan giants. Barca was well and truly cancelled out by Atlético Madrid, who have not been beaten by them in their 3 matches played this season.
