The player’s contract expires next year in 2015 but Marc-Andre ter Stegen has refused to pledge his future to the German outfit. It has been known for some time that FC Barcelona has been linked with the German goalkeeper as a possible substitute for current number 1 keeper Victor Valdés.
Therefore, it appears that Borussia Mönchengladbach has naturally assumed the exit of goalkeeper ter Stegen. The club announced on Monday that it will not renew his contract that expires in 2015, and that the player will leave the German team next summer. On the keeper’s destination: “We all assume that he will go to the speculated club,” said sporting director Max Eberl.
Eberl spoke of Barcelona without mentioning the name of the club on their website. “He has played with us since he was five years old and now has the chance to go to the best team in the world,” he said. He believes that this fact will be understood by the Mönchengladbach fans. “You can not be mad about that,” he added.
21 year old Marc-André ter Stegen had his exit secured by contract in case any of the top teams in Europe was interested in him. “We established it like this […] and we sat down to negotiate. I assume we’ll reach an agreement,” said Eberl. Borussia views the transfer of their number one keeper as a good opportunity to generate some income. So, how good is Marc Andre ter Stegen ?
