Xavi Hernández believes that this wave of criticism against Barca is not good for the club: “We believe in what we are doing, but there is a negativity in the air that is not helping. Now there is a negative trend in the environment and we have to try and change it,” said the Barca midfielder.
In an interview on Catalunya Radio, Xavi said that the Catalan club should change its mindset: “Actually, the only time the team gave the feeling of not being in control was in the first half against Ajax, and perhaps a few times against Athletic Bilbao. I didn’t enjoy the first half in Amsterdam. Had we changed the dynamics of FC Barcelona? No, but sometimes it appears that we keep seeing the glass half empty.”
Xavi admitted that the club is not going through one of their better moments and that there are some things to improve. “For example, we are losing more balls and this must be corrected.”
The midfielder from Terrassa, just north of Barcelona, had words of praise for new Argentine coach Tata Martino: “He’s a leader, a very thorough person with very clear ideas who has not come to change anything except to regain the sensations we once felt.”
Xavi said that the Barca style has not changed: ” Sergi Roberto or Cesc can play in the same position and the style does not change. No player in the squad would do well to change his style. We are not made to sprint up and down the field 30 or 40 times per match, but rather, to control the game.”
“What has changed are the dynamics of Spanish football. Now everyone wants to play like Barcelona: Rayo Vallecano, Betis, Celta…” said Xavi.
