Leo Messi will be out for two months

Some news that has marred somewhat Barcelona’s 1-4 demolition job of Real Betis on Sunday evening has to do with Leo Messi.

FC Barcelona have communicated through a medical report that Lionel Messi will be out of action for at least two months due to a torn hamstring in his left leg. The Argentine will start the first part his recovery program in Barcelona and the second part in Argentina.

Messi will miss at least four league games this season ( Granada , Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal and Getafe ), two Champions League games ( Ajax in Amsterdam and Celtic in Barcelona ) and the first round of the Copa del Rey against Cartagena. Leo could make his reappearance in the last game of the first round against Atlético Madrid on January 12th, 2014.

This is the fourth time the Argentine has suffered a hamstring injury this season and each time it has got worse. The first was in preseason when an overload of his quadriceps kept him out of the last friendly match in Malaysia.

The second injury came just two weeks after in the first leg of the Spanish Supercup against Atlético Madrid. He suffered bruising of the hamstring in his left leg which kept him off the pitch for a week and prevented him playing against Malaga.

On September 28th against Almeria, Messi asked to be substituted because of a hamstring injury in his right leg. The Argentine was out of action for three weeks in which the club lost against Celtic and Valladolid. His return now has to be progressive and the player recognises that he is not physically one hundred percent.

About Aaron

My name's Aaron and I'm a great Barça fan. I like to tell it like it is and if there is something I don't like about the club or something that needs addressing, you'll know!
