Barca coach Gerardo Martino had words to say about Messi’s current form and the alleged crisis the Catalan team is going through: “All this about Messi has come about because we never see him go four games without scoring. We ask far too much of him, and when he goes four games without scoring we forget the assist he gave to Cesc against Celta or the goal against Milan. He doesn’t seem worried to me”, said the coach.
“From where I´m standing, I can’t see any crisis, but from what I can gather from what I hear and read, we are in one. There’s always room for improvement and we can always play better, without doubt. Barcelona needs alternatives if it wants to carry on hurting its opponents, and also so that they don’t have so many clear references”, he said in a press conference ahead of the Barca – AC Milan clash at the Camp Nou.
Then with a touch of sarcasm, Martino “admitted” that the Catalan giants were in a crisis. The coach was asked about the crisis that the Italian giants are going through (currently second from bottom and 19 points adrift from the Serie A leaders): “We are also going through a crisis, I don’t think there is that much difference, in that way I think we are similar to each other”.
“I have no idea what could happen when we lose. I’ve been watching some war films to give me an idea. Of course, this is going to happen. I can’t imagine living through this crisis without losing a match. But the beauty of a team’s game cannot be measured in the amount of passes”, he said.
Leo Messi will be in tonight’s lineup tonight for the second leg of the clash that ended in a 1-1 draw in Milan on October 22nd with the Argentine hoping to lead his team to victory and ending his goal drought. Kickoff is at 19:45 GMT.
