Point keeps Barcelona top of group in Champions League

Robinho opened the scoring for AC Milan after just 9 minutes on the clock. A defensive error by Javier Mascherano let the Brazilian in through the back door who promptly punished keeper Victor Valdés. The Argentine tried to clear the ball but hit Pique in his attempt, only to let in Robinho who played a neat one two with teammate and fellow Brazilian Kaká to score past Valdés.

Messi then responded for the Catalans in the 23rd minute. The Argentine who has just come back from injury played a key part in last night’s clash. Iniesta played the ball to Messi on the right and then cut into the middle. He then evaded the Milan defense to fire past keeper Marco Amelia with a left-footed shot.

The Catalan giants had to recover from a poor first half performance to make their mark on the game. Barca showed only flashes of their usual brilliance, but the Italian outfit needed a well organised defence to avoid defeat.

Both Robinho and Barca’s Adriano had chances to put their teams in front in the second half but it wasn’t to be. FC Barcelona now go into next Saturday’s Clasico match against Real Madrid psyched up knowing that they top both La Liga and their Champions League group.
