Marc Bartra: “I feel valued”

Marc Bartra

Marc Bartra says he “feels valued by the club”.

Marc Bartra, whose contract expires in June 2014, says he is calm regarding his renewal negotiations and as he said in a press conference, he is centered on the club.

“I’m very happy with how things are going. The important thing is to continue at this level and to play in the big games with Barcelona. Despite the injuries, I have kept up my good level and I should continue to maintain it,” he said.

Bartra , who has started the last three games replacing the injured Argentine Javier Mascherano, believes that what is happening at the moment is a prize for all the effort and hard work done since he started playing in the youth teams of the Catalan club : “It’s a reward for all the hard work. I’ve been here for ten years and have not had it easy “.

In this regard, Marc Bartra noted that with the good form he has shown in the last two games, his teammates are starting to trust in his possibilities.

“I feel more loved because I’ve been competing with them two years, receiving many tips from the best players in the world and that makes me look up to them,” he emphasized.

On the few opportunities he had last season under the orders of ‘Tito Vilanova, Bartra admitted that it was tough, but explained that he used the experience to be stronger because “when there are obstacles, the greater the challenge ,” he indicated .

“Despite the few minutes I had played, in my head I was improving and being with them every day made me take more responsibility,” highlighted the player.

Bartra also revealed that he had doubts about whether to continue in the first team when the club planned to sign a central defender in the summer transfer window before the arrival of the Argentine coach.

“If a central defender had been signed, it would have made it more difficult for me. Martino opted from the beginning to go along with what he had, and in the results, you see that he was right,” he added.

Asked about his role for when Puyol and Mascherano are fully fit, the player from Tarragona believes “the more competition there is, the better it is for the team because the level of play will rise”.
