Neymar leads goal fest in friendly against Australia

Brazil produced a convincing win against Australia (6-0) in a very easy game for the hosts of the 2014 World Cup where Barca’s Neymar had a great game,  giving Australia no chance.

Jô  got on the scoreboard with the first two goals. Then it was Neymar, Ramires, Alexandre Pato and Luiz Gustavo who were the authors of the rest of the Brazilian team’s goals in the 6-0 whitewash.

Neymar, apart from his goal, participated decisively in three of the goals – in the first and the last two, where he provided goal assists to Pato and Luiz Gustavo.

Brazil took the game seriously, completely annulling Australia while pressuring in the centre of the pitch and in attack. They were happy to control the ball with a slow pace and surprise Australia on the odd occasion using the explosive speed of players like Neymar and Bernard.

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said beforehand that he wanted to use the friendly to test out alternatives and probably came away happy with Ramires’ performance who took control of play in midfield. He must have been happy with Maicon  too, who was a worthy replacement for the injured Barca star Daniel Alves.

He also made a good decision formed by Jô and Bernard from Atletico Mineiro, who proved to be a great duo to provide the first two goals.

Australia, a lower end rival, did not create any problems for the Brazilians at all. They made it past the halfway line on the odd occasion and had to defend in order to avoid Brazil putting more goals on the scoreboard.

The goal rout begins

The rout started early in the 7th minute when Jô took advantage of a rebound that hit the post from Bernard from a move initiated by Neymar Jr.

The Brazilian team then dropped the rhythm down a notch for the next 25 minutes when they scored two goals in a row. The first coming from some play between Bernard and Jô and the second from a counterattack by Neymar which he resolved with a subtle touch in the one on one with keeper Schwarzer.

The fourth goal was a clear demonstration of the superiority of the Brazilian side, which chained four passes together with Ramires finishing the move with a header.

Alexandre Pato , who returned to the Brazil side after an absence of eight months scored the fifth from a Neymar pass shortly after coming on the pitch. The last goal of the game was a powerful shot from the edge of the area By Luiz Gustavo, after combining with Neymar .

Brazil will now play a friendly next Tuesday against Portugal in Boston, USA.
