Messi hat-trick makes it three out of three at Mestalla

A Lionel Messi hat trick last night at the Mestalla stadium gave the Catalan club a 2-3 victory against Valencia.

Barca didn’t have it all their own way though with Postiga finding the net twice to make it 2-3 just before half time.

But the man of the match was undoubtedly Leo Messi who has returned to blistering form in spectacular style.

Valencia looked like that had given up the ghost of catching Barcelona who already had 3 goals on the scoreboard thanks to Messi, but Postiga put away two chances to make the match very interesting ahead of the second half.

Barcelona provided no respite in the second half although Valencia were gunning for a third goal to make the scores even. The Catalans piled on the pressure and a valiant Valencia soaked it all up.

With Fabregas at the helm directing his team like a symphonic orchestra, the fans saw the Barca they knew and loved last night. It was a close game at the end but Barca knew how to hold on.

It was no doubt Barcelona’s best game since Gerardo Martino took over on the manager’s bench and with Iniesta and Cesc ruling the midfield, the Catalans could hardly put a foot wrong.

The second half saw both Victor Valdes and Diego Alves flying between the posts trying to keep the scores the same.

That was it, Barca are La Liga leaders with three out of three with Atletico Madrid, Villareal and Real Madrid bringing up the rear.
