Luiz Gustavo, Bayern Munich’s versatile midfielder, who is called up along fellow compatriots Alves and Neymar for the Switzerland vs Brazil friendly tonight in Basel, explained in an interview to Brazilian newspaper O Globo that he wants to go to a team where he can play.
“Not much to talk about with Guardiola”
The Brazilian international let it drop that his relationship with Pep Guardiola is cold, claiming, there is “not much to talk about” with the ex Barca coach. “We’ve chatted a few times, but more about personal issues than sporting ones”.
The Bayern Munich coach himself would not oppose the exit of the player who came to the Allianz Arena in January 2011. It was then when Gustavo was first touted as a possible replacement for Seydou Keita when he headed out of the Nou Camp doors to find pastures new in the shape of Chinese football in the summer of 2012.
A few of the big guns like Arsenal FC, Inter Milan, Napoli and Manchester United have all contemplated a possible signing, with the Gunners’ initially emerging as favourites to get the 26 year old’s signature.
According to German newspaper Bild, that collected the statements from Luiz Gustavo in O Globo on Wednesday, Barcelona have also renewed their interest in the player, taking into account that the player can also play at centre-back.
The market value of Luiz Gustavo is said to be around 16-18M euros.
