D-Day for Chelsea’s David Luiz

It looks like being D-Day for Chelsea’s David Luiz in his bid to wear a Barca shirt and play for the Catalan giants.

Barca initiated negotiations with Chelsea last week in their bid to bring in a quality central defender before the transfer window closes. By the end of today Barca may know whether they reap the fruits of their labour with David Luiz pressuring the blues and trying to force an exit.

To make the Brazilian’s stance even more efficient, the Catalan club are preparing a parallel second and final offer for the player. The Catalan entity emailed the London club a proposal of 20M euros, plus 5M in variables for the player. Barcelona’s top brass will now raise that figure.

15M Euros the difference
Although Chelsea has already informed Barcelona that David Luiz will not be sold for less than 50M euros, the boardroom will elevate its initial proposal to 30M euros, which would amount to a maximum of 35M including 5M euros in variables.

Consequently, there exists a difference of 15M euros compared to what Barca is willing to pay and what Chelsea want, but the club is confident they can clinch a deal considering that David Luiz’s wish is to leave the Blues for Barca.

Mourinho and Abramovich
With the objective of making David Luiz realise he is a key player in the Chelsea squad, both Jose Mourinho and Roman Abramovich have been working together to keep him from leaving.

Mourinho has publicly demonstrated that he is an irreplaceable player in the Chelsea squad. “We do not sell our best players,” said the Portuguese coach.

Meanwhile, the club’s owner Roman Abramovich, wants to convince the player by increasing his salary, which is currently in 6M euros. For the Russian billionaire David Luiz is not only a player he admires but one that he dotes on as a person.

Therefore, Abramovich is more inclined to reach into his deep pockets to keep him at Stamford Bridge and not let the Brazilian slip through the net.
