Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino is the new coach of FC Barcelona. The club’s board has chosen Martino as the replacement for Tito Vilanova on the Barca bench.
The Argentine coach will sign a three-year contract and will come to the Nou Camp accompanied by Elvio Paolorroso and Jorge Pautasso, his trainer and assistant, respectively.
After several days of negotiations, in which the names of Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino and Luis Enrique were sounded out to be the new Barca coach, it was the Argentine who has been chosen by the board of directors to take the club’s reins and lead them. One of the main problems was to do with the inclusion of Martino’s helpers.
After the official announcement and confirmation by the Catalan club, ‘Tata’ Martino will be the fourth Argentine coach in the club’s history after Helenio Herrera, Roque Olsen and Cesar Luis Menotti.
On Monday morning there was telephone contact between Martino and directors of Barca. After that the directors contacted Martino’s lawyers to promptly discuss contractual issues. Martino is in Rosario, Argentina, awaiting the final OK from the Catalan club.
The new Barca coach will arrive on Wednesday to the city of Barcelona so that rules him out of the game in Munich, where his new team will play against Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich. The new coach will take charge and begin training immediately after the Bayern game with the world’s best player and fellow compatriot, Lionel Messi.

It’s nice we have Tata as the new Barca coach, who is constructive, formidable and has the Barcelona way of play. I hope he will save us.
