Arsenal seals deal with Gonzalo Higuaín for 25M Euros

It looks like Real Madrid have not undersold Gonzalo Higuaín by letting him go to Arsenal for 25million euros. According to British newspaper The Daily Mail, the player will earn 7.2million Euros a year in wages. Over the past few days, the offices of the Santiago Bernabéu have received numerous emails from clubs who were keen on knowing the price of the Argentine.

This week has seen North London club Arsenal showing the most interest in Higuaín.

The Gunners were willing to go up to 30million euros. That’s 8 million more than Juventus offered. The terms of payment were also better. Arsenal was willing to pay the amount in a single lump sum while the Italians wanted to pay for him in five payments.

This made Real Madrid in no rush to sell off the striker. The reason put forward at the club is that until the new coach arrives, a decision will not be made. Ancelotti, who is about to arrive in Madrid, will also give his opinion.

Higuain’s representatives have had two meetings with Real Madrid top brass and agree that it is the club that has to listen to all offers. He still has a three-year contract and is agreed that if he did leave, it had to be in the best possible way.

The Gunners miss Van Persie

Juventus was the first team to express their desire to contract the Argentine striker, but the numbers presented to the player by the Italians were thought to be insufficient. If they want him, they’ll have to do better.

The truth is that Arsenal appears to be more offensive in its efforts to sign Higuain. This last season Arsenal has had a serious problem with finding the net. Arsenal’s strikers have not been “on the ball” and Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster his front line.

Robin van Persie left last season and went to Manchester United and Arsenal ended up signing Frenchman Olivier Giroud. He managed to score just 11 goals in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s top scorer in the Premier League has been Theo Walcott (14 goals) with Santi Cazorla surprisingly coming in second place with 12 goals. Wenger seeks to remedy this situation as the Gunners have suffered in their quest to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Higuain, who has been injured for the last two months, scored a total of 16 goals in La Liga. Wenger had set his sights on the Argentine for this reason. The French coach had other options and there has been talk of Rooney, but with each passing day, the signing of Gonzalo Higuain was looking more and more promising.

It appears that Wenger’s project appealed to the Argentine along with his wage hike, and was one of the reasons that swayed his decision.

More news from the Premier League is that East London club West Ham United have finally managed to seal a deal with big forward Andy Carroll for £16million. He’ll earn around £100k a week on a 6 year-deal.
