Neymar’s father: “We’ll speak after the final”

In anticipation of the events that might take place after negotiations between FC Barcelona and Santos regarding the signing of Neymar, Spanish sports paper Mundo Deportivo has made contact with Neymar’s father, who also happens to be the player’s agent, to learn about any views that his son may have on the matter of leaving Santos for Barca.

Neymar senior opted for a cautious approach and advised people to speak to the clubs involved in the negotiations: “They should talk to the clubs, not me. If both clubs are seeking an agreement, then they will have to talk to them,” he said.

After insisting on knowing what the position of the outstanding young player with a more than probable future as a striker at the Catalan club Barcelona, Neymar senior went on to explain: “My son is only focused on trying to win the Campeonato Paulista final with Santos at the moment.”

“Once the final is over, then we can talk,” replied Neymar’s father and agent. After losing 2-1 in the first leg last Sunday against Corinthians, Neymar has understandably just one thing on his mind – the second leg against Corinthians on Sunday 19^th May and to try and overturn the 2-1 defeat.

Neymar could then leave both Santos and the Campeonato Paulista on a high note before settling down to talk about business and his possible future at the Catalan club, Barcelona.

It’s understandable that the young Brazilian would want to focus on winning the Championship before committing his future to any club and the press should give him some breathing space. We don’t know what the final figures for Neymar would be but we can expect it to be around the 100Million euro mark.

It’s a lot of money and we would expect Barcelona to amortise the debt in record time.
