Víctor Valdés still set to leave Barca in June

Victor Valdes is sticking to his guns in his intention to leave the club before the end of his contract, which expires on 30th June next year. The goalkeeper is keeping silent about his immediate future and Barca know, after talking with his representatives that the keeper has already asked the club to let him go this summer, according to Cadena SER.

Just three months ago the current Barca keeper told of his desire to leave the Nou Camp at the end of this season.

Barca believes that Victor Valdes already has an agreement with another club and are waiting for him to say. The Catalan club headed by Sandro Rosell would let the keeper be transferred this summer for between 10 and 15 Million euros.

At the moment, there is no formal offer on the table for the player but, taking into account Valdes’ desire and that he only has a year on his current contract, everyone assumes he will end up leaving and not see out his contract until June 2014.

Valdés’s fate seems to lie in the English Premier League or the French Ligue 1. North London club Arsenal has positioned itself to acquire the services of the keeper, but the Russian tycoon Dmitry Rybolovlev who presides Monaco also aims to sign the Barca stopper, who wants to leave as soon as possible.

On the sporting side of things, Valdés hasn’t played for the club since the second leg of the Champions League semifinals against Bayern Munich. Since then, Valdés has missed two league games against Real Betis and Atletico Madrid because of plantar fasciitis (a painful inflammatory process) in his left foot.

Barca sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta, blamed himself on Monday for the keeper not wanting to renew his contract. He in an interview with RAC1 that Valdes was a great keeper and a player who was irreplaceable.

He stated that if Valdes wanted to leave, he would sit down with him and look at his best options. Zubizarreta thought the renewal was going well but then recognized that it was his own fault that the keeper failed to renew for the Catalan club.
