Insatiable Leo Messi

The last time we saw Leo Messi not score in the league was last November 3rd against Celta Vigo at the Camp Nou. Six long months have passed since then and the Argentine wizard has scored in all league games. An amazing feat to say the least.

With his brace against Real Betis on Sunday evening, Leo Messi has notched up an incredible 45 goals in La Liga and an amazing 59 goals in all competitions and it’s now 21 consecutive games in which he has managed to score in the domestic league.

The Camp Nou on sunday celebrated Messi’s return as if he had scored a goal. The ovation for the Argentine was loud and unanimous. Just four minutes after he came on Barca was awarded a free-kick just outside the 18 yard area. Messi stepped up to take it and curled a beautiful effort into the top left hand corner of the goal giving the young Betis keeper no chance at all. Finally, after 15 minutes after coming on for David Villa, who also scored in the match, Messi found the net again after an assist by Chilean Alexis Sánchez.

The match ended 4-2 to Barca and although Pep Mel’s team played their hearts out, they were no match for Barca and the little Argentine.

Barca’s next match is against Atletico Madrid away at the Vicente Calderón stadium in Madrid on Sunday. Messi will no doubt be raring to go after his hamstring injury kept him off the pitch for a few games including the crunch game against Bayern at the Camp Nou.

Messi will want to go out and inspire his fellow team mates and win the league title on Sunday against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
