Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez finished last night’s second leg Champions League match against A.C Milan with a hamstring problem in his right leg and will be out of Sunday’s clash against Rayo Vallecano, as reported by the club in a statement on their website.
Xavi, who returned to the first team for the spectacular comeback against Milan (4-0), may have felt a few twinges in his right leg after the match – a problem that’s been dragging on and one that has prevented him from playing the last two games with the Catalan club.
The midfielder was one of the highlights of the Barcelona team providing two assists, one for Messi at 1-0 and the other for David Villa for the 3-0. Xavi Hernandez is now tied with Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas as the third player who’s played most games in the history of the Champions League with 127 to his name.
Beating A.C Milan last night at the Nou Camp brought back memories of the Barca we have come to know and respect. Messi was sublime and scored two great goals. David Villa put the game beyond Milan and Jordi Alba made sure at the end by providing the fourth.
Barcelona needed this win and although they didn’t need to silence their critics with this great comeback win, they did. There were a lot of critics ready to rubbish this Barca team if they didn’t get through. Now, they are having to eat their words with a large helping of humble pie.
Xavi’s comeback surely helped Barca win last night and it is the spirit that has been lacking lately. Surely, with the winning spirit back in the dressing room, Barca must now be favourites to win the Champions league.
All hail the greatest club… All hail barca!
