Barca defender Marc Bartra out for 10 days with knee sprain

Barca midfielder Xavi Hernandez, who was missing from the last league match against Real Madrid with a hamstring injury in his right leg, is back training with the rest of the squad.

However, Xavi will not be called into the squad for tomorrow’s match against Deportivo at the Nou Camp, thinking instead of the Champions League match against A.C Milan next Tuesday. Barcelona will need Xavi at his absolute best if he is to help the Catalan giants beat the Italians and make it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Barcelona defender Marc Bartra did not train with the squad as he is out with a sprained left knee that will keep him out of action for at least seven to ten days as reported by the Catalan club’s medical services.

On the other hand, Barca B goalkeeper Jordi Masip did train with the squad and will be José Manuel Pinto’s substitute against Deportivo as Victor Valdes has been suspended after getting his marching orders at the Santiago Bernabeu last Saturday for arguing with referee Perez Lasa after the game. The other reserve keeper that could have covered the spot was Oier Olazábal, who is also serving a one-match ban after being sent off against Las Palmas.

The first team’s training session counted on the presence of a special young man: Mamadou Lamine. Mamadou is a 9 year old boy who has been blind since birth but manages to listen to all of FC Barcelona’s matches on the radio.

Mamadou, of Senegalese origin but living in Lleida in Catalonia, was able to meet his idols in a special visit organized by the Barca Foundation.
